Council Hears From Mahaska Rural Water on Transition of Water System

New Sharon City Councilors dealt with a routine agenda Wednesday, but heard from Mahaska Rural Water manager Randy Pleima on the steps to make the transition of ownership of the water system. The transition comes after the overwhelming vote on Nov. 7.

Pleima said much of the transition is paperwork regarding actual ownership, handling of loans on the current system and equipment payments. The city owns an end loader used at the site that MRW does not need so through agreement the unit may be taken off the ownership list. Pleima said the council would have to approve the agreements, but felt that the entire transition will be complete prior to Jan. 1.

With completion of the agreements New Sharon residents should receive their first monthly bill in January. One major change is that all water bills will have to be sent or paid in Oskaloosa at the MRW office at 401 B Ave. West.
