Mayor Dustin Hite issues the oath of office to Tom German.

Wednesday was a night to say hello and goodbye at the New Sharon City Council meeting. Mayor Dustin Hite and council members said goodbye to longtime councilor Kenneth Ward and fire chief Steve Gerard.

They then said hello to new council members Jeff Long and Tom German.

Hite opened the meeting presenting a certificate of appreciation to Wes White, who is leaving the council after serving a two-year term. Ward has spent 15 years serving the City of New Sharon. Wednesday was he and White’s last meeting. Current councilor Keri Lamberson was sworn in by Hite first followed by German and Long. The three were elected in November and will begin their terms on Jan. 1. The new councilors will hold sway at their first meeting on Jan. 3 at 6 p.m.

Fire chief Steve Gerard is stepping down after 12 years as chief. Joshua Crouse was sworn in by Hite as the new chief. Gerard said the department elected Crouse and the council approved the appointment.
