NM Board Hears Student Reports

Macy Moore

North Mahaska students Macy Moore and Allie Livezey gave presentations to the school board at its November meeting Monday. The students had participated in the newly instituted student led conferences.

Moore, a sophomore, among with parents Mark and Janine Moore, demonstrated the process used during the parent-teacher conferences. The student led conferences were an idea brought to the district by high school principal Doug Ray and put into place this fall. Moore explained that each student was paired with a teacher-advisor and set goals for the first quarter. Grades were recorded and notes were made in how she progressed or met or missed her goals.

“Mrs. (Miranda) Johnson helped me as my adviser,” said Moore. “In the conference I said, ‘Something I had struggle with was Spanish.” In the question of what will help her with that was listening to music in Spanish when she studies.
