NM Boys Season Ends In District Final

North Mahaska’s Logan Shipley makes a drive against Grand View Christian’s Andrew Gatto following a rebound.

It is not often when the opposing coach tells the losing coach his team played a great game, but lost by 40. Such was the case Thursday as No. 1 ranked Grand View Christian upended the Warhawks, 74-34. Dave Stubbs congratulated North Mahaska coach Seth Streebin on the Warhawks’ tenacity.

“It’s a tribute to how hard your kids when a coach tells you how well and hard your kids played,” said Streebin. “It feels really good and I told the kids that, when you have the best team in the state talk about how they played.”

The Thunder (22-1) has won the past two Class 1A state titles and are seeking a third. They will play Mormon Trail (19-4) Saturday at East Union.

The first and third quarters were to the detriment of the Warhawks. GVC opened with a pair of buckets until Ty Kelderman rung up a 3-pointer. GVC then went on a 10-0 run that ended when Dylan Klinker hit a second three for NM to cut the lead to 14-6. North Mahaska was unable to score the rest of the period.
