NM Boys Split in SICL Openers

NEW SHARON – North Mahaska’s baseball tam was a bit Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde in its first two games of the season. In the opener against HLV they had trouble getting a ball in play falling 3-0 on Monday, them rebounded on Wednesday with a 16-6 shelling of Lynnville-Sully.

“We had just two hits and could not get the ball in play,” said coach Kevin Kelderman. “We committed a couple errors and that was it.”

Sophomores Matthew Goemaat and Blake Readshaw hit the only singles for the Warhawks. Readshaw earned two stolen bases in the game.

Logan Shipley tossed 5 2/3 innings and took the loss for NM He struck out six, walked two and gave up three runs on three hits. Duke Dodge tossed 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and walking one.

Dean Shaull and Caden Fontinel each hit two singles and stole two bases for HLV. Brody Wolf took the win with nine strikeouts and one walk.

North Mahaska’s fortunes turned on Wednesday as they came back from a first inning deficit.
