North Mahaska Punches Ticket To Wells Fargo

North Mahaska’s girl’s basketball team is headed to Wells Fargo Arena to play in the state basketball tournament. They upset No. 4 Seymour, 38-37 and will face West Hancock at the Well on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 5 p.m.

Seymour (20-1) led for 29 minutes in the game that was more of a defensive game early. Seymour senior Hannah Hinners hit a 3-pointer and Nadia Howell scored off an offensive rebound to give the Warriorettes a 5-0 lead. North Mahaska came back to tie the game at 5-5 with 2 minutes 51 seconds to play in the first period. Seymour quickly went back on top by eight points.

From that point Seymour was able to keep the lead that only was cut to three until Jade Hay’s 18-foot jumper cut the lead to 28-26. Junior Cheyenne Shaw drilled a 3-pointer to pull NM to within one point. With 2:39 to play Hay rung up another trey to give North Mahaska their first lead 32-30.
