NS Council Seeks Mayor

As expected New Sharon Mayor Dustin Hite tendered his resignation effective the end of the year. Hite was elected to represent District 79 in the Iowa Statehouse on Nov. 6 and will begin his term Jan. 1.

Councilors discussed the move at its Nov. 19 meeting and have decided to appoint someone at its Dec. 5 meeting. However, should the public submit a petition with at least 200 signatures requesting a special election, then the council would begin that process. Whichever process is utilized the person selected will fill out Hite’s term, which will end Dec. 31, 2020 or until the next election, whichever occurs first.

A public notice appears in today’s edition of The Sun. If anyone 18 years or older and a resident of New Sharon wishes to be considered for the position, contact Lisa Munn at City Hall prior to the Dec. 5 meeting.
