Pilot Dies In Saturday Plane Crash

A mid-afternoon plane crash claimed the life of one person according to a press release from the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office. The crash was reported at 2:20 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23.

According to the initial report, the Sheriff’s Office received the report of the crash at 2082 210th Street, just north of Oskaloosa and west of US 63.

According to the investigation, it is believed the plane struck a power line. Federal Aviation Administration representatives were contacted to assist with the investigation.

Only one person, the pilot, was onboard the aircraft. The pilot was identified as 70-year old Bruce Gene Devick of Marshalltown. He was piloting a two-seat light sport plane when it struck a power line. The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA continue the investigation along with local law enforcement.

Mahaska County Sheriff was assisted in the response and investigation by Oskaloosa Fire Department, Mahaska Health Partnership ambulance, Iowa State Patrol and Mahaska County Emergency Management.
