VanWyk Joins NS Council

Leslie VanWyk took the oath of office from New Sharon Mayor Keri Lamberson Wednesday night and promptly began work as the newest city councilor.

VanWyk was appointed to the council to replace Lamberson, who was named mayor following Dustin Hite’s election to the state legislature. Her first order of business was to move into a public hearing for a building permit for councilor Jeff Long. Long had requested a permit for a deck at 105 N. Lincoln. No written or verbal comments were received and councilors approved the permit. Long abstained from the vote and conversation regarding his building permit.

Area contractor Terry Anderson spoke to council about his recommendations for the cityowned building at 105 S. Main. Anderson said he looked at the building and determined a private person could not buy it and make it worthwhile. He said 30 percent of the roof on the back has collapsed and 30 percent for the floor joists are rotted away.
